Amr Abol-Enein is CEO of Asset Management and CI Asset Management ‘CIAM’s’ Investment Committee and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. With more than 25 years of hands-on experience in the field of equities, debt, fixed income, and alternative investments. He joined CI Capital team since December 2012.
Since he joined, Abol-Enein has managed to turn around the business to a more leading universal asset manager model, which grew c.15 folds. CIAM managed to launch/acquire 4 equity and MM funds (CIAM currently manages 10 mutual funds as of December2017), and has been awarded a number of high-profile large-sized equity mandates. CIAM has been awarded the “Best Asset Manager in Egypt” from Global Investor during his 5 years-tenor in CI Capital and has been also awarded numerous awards as the best asset manager in Egypt and other best managed funds from EMEA finance (African Banking Group), Global Business Outlook, and MENA Fund Manager. CIAM’s conventional equity fund (Istithmar) has been ranked first over all its all market peers in 2017 as well as for its 2-years cumulative returns, whereas its Shariah-compliant fund (Aman) is ranked first for its 2-years, 3-years, and 5-years cumulative returns. Moreover, CIAM’s managed MM fund (Arope) and FI fund (Thabat) have also topped their peers in 2017.
Prior to joining CIAM, Abol-Enein worked at Banque du Caire as General Manager and Head of Investment and Capital Markets. He served also as a member in the bank’s ALCO, Investment Committee, the bank’s Executive Committee, and chaired the bank’s mutual funds’ supervisory committee. He also served as an Investment Committee and board member in both Egypt International Fund and in Nile Development and Investment Co. Earlier he worked in the capacity of Executive Director/Managing Director in a number of local and international investment banks including HC Securities & Investment and ING Bank Netherland (London and Dubai) where he headed both equity/Fixed income research and investment strategy for MENA markets. He also co-managed DAMAC Invests Equity Fund of c.US$2 billion in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey markets.
Abol-Enein worked as a senior consultant in the Central Bank of Egypt responsible for Privatization/M&As/ Asset Management for state- owned banks, and served as a voting member in a number of Egypt’s “State Privatization Committees”. He also spent 7 years in both Arab Bank plc and NSGB (now QNB) as both treasury & corporate credit analyst and spent a short stint as a faculty member at the American University in Dubai, lecturing investment and capital markets modules.
Abol-Enein is both CFA and CAIA charter holder and is a certified FRM —and holds an MBA degree in International Banking and Finance from Birmingham Business School, UK (1998), and was awarded accreditation from Securities Investment Institute, UK (2007).
